4Patch

Why? Well a four patch quilt is made from multiple squares each comprised of four fabrics. It can be an extremely complex pattern built from a simple block. I love that. I’m amazed by the multitude of designs that can be achieved by rearranging the most simple shapes of fabric (or anything else for that matter). Like this one:

I made this for my neighbor’s three-year-old daughter. The pattern is as simple as they come: the half-square triangle. I paired a ‘solid’ with a print and sewed two seams, each one quarter of an inch from the center line, and cut. Presto. Two squares. It was fun to lay (lie?) them all out on the floor and come up with the final pattern. I settled on this one partially because it made me less dizzy than most of the others. Simple is good.
