Okay, see if you can wrap your head around this: four generations ago there were two brothers who married two sisters. They had children who were cousins—doubly. Among those cousins were my grandmother, Sylvia, and Jen’s grandmother, Shirley. That makes our mothers, Faith and Jane, second cousins. (We think) that makes us second cousins once removed and our kids either third cousins or second cousins twice removed. Either way, pretty cool, right?
Jen and I really came into each others’ lives as adults and she is another example of how the experience of motherhood can connect women instantly. Here, though, we have the additional tie of family that bonds us.
Jen is upbeat and kind and she has had a load of crap handed to her this year. Makes me wonder about why bad things happen to good people.

The way you have captured her makes it look like things will be turning up for her. She looks happy and hopeful and like that ray of sunshine may follow her where ever she goes.
My grandfather’s sister married my grandmother’s brother… so I know what you mean about confusing family connections! Love the effect of the background on this one. It looks like the trees are moving.
I *think* you two would be third cousins and your children would be fourth cousins because you’re in the same generational “level”.
Either way, she looks like a wonderful, warm person, and I hope that things turn around for her!
i second tonya (who, in the spirit of this post i will say, is my first cousin and we both have T names just like sylvia and shirley, are 9 months apart, have kids the same age, and have found a new bond since we’ve become mothers and sewers even though we now are 2,977 miles apart which is key to how she got me “into” blogs since it really has shortened that distance) phew… but she’s right, she looks happy and hopeful the sun seems to be shining right onto her giving her an inner lightness, like she’s floating up. beautiful. and the background makes it look like the earth is breathing with her and that breath will carry her wherever she needs to go.
Jen sounds like an amazing cousin—As adults my cousin (the only other girl besides my sister and myself) have become much closer. Jen does seem, from the way you captured her, to be one who handles all things with grace.
Jen is no doubt lucky that she has ‘family’ like you to help her through the bad times too!
my mom is also a double cousin, AND her name is also Faith. Doubly coincidental, huh?
