Now, I know it’s not the camera that makes the photographs. Any more than the box of sharp colored pencils makes the illustrator. Or owning Photoshop makes you a web-designer.
But it helps.
For example. I’ve never showed you this
because I didn’t have a fast enough lens (or a tripod) to get a shot of my window-less stair hall.
This quilt was a wedding gift from my husband.
On our wedding day he gave me a handwritten note (most of which I won’t share here) with the promise of a stop at this shop on our honeymoon in Maine. (For the sentimental among you: we chose Maine because we met there almost fifteen years earlier during a time when we both worked there. Also, I needed to go someplace where we could hop in the car and be home in less than a day’s time since my then-seven-year-old-boy was to be staying behind.)
We spent hours looking through quilts at Betsy Telford’s shop trying to choose one that we both loved (and that was in the budget). While I appreciate the craftsmanship of a traditional quilt (which is mostly what she stocks), my heart belongs to patchwo4k. And this one tells a poignant story of African American tradition in Alabama in the 1950′s.
And it’s pretty.

I have the same camera – and whether it’s the photographer or not – it’s a dam fine camera! It takes beatiful photos effortlessly. And what a lovely quilt – oh I’m so glad you have a new camera
I love the simplicity of the design and the amazing variety of the scraps. And a story to go with it is even better. Beautiful.
Yeah for great cameras that expand our creativity! And yeah for the most beautiful quilt in the world that just landed on my doorstep this afternoon. I can’t tell you how much I love that there’s something in my house that was just in your house. It’s so comforting. And it’s even more beautiful in person.
Keep your eye out for a ricochet present, miss 41
Isn’t it awesome!?! We bought ourselves the same one for Christmas/Anniversary/holidays for the foreseeable future . . . I love it! (It is amazing how many times I read your blog and I say, “me too.”) I had been planning on doing a post on it soon, although I probably won’t ever get to it. Congratulations! I love the quilt in your stairwell, it is really beautiful and so special. Thank you for sharing it.
Such a lovely gift! I was thinking of hanging a quilt along the stairs because it’s pretty bare aside from some record covers and pictures.
Hooray for the camera…and hooray for the quilt. Lovely!
It’s very pretty.
The quilt is lovely and I just did, and will again, spend an hour looking at the quilts on Rocky Mountain Quilts. Thanks for the link.
The post about your second chance at marriage was also the first one I ever read on your blog and it made me happy to see it again. I’m always grateful for the inspiration your blog provides.
Very pretty! I love the site too. Sounds like a wonderful honeymoon!

Now that IS a special quilt. Lovely story.
So beautiful! That is one thoughtful husband.
Go Nial–what a lovely, thoughtful gift to you!!! It’s beautiful up there on your stairs (near all those photographs–that’s my plan for my studio). And that leetle friend…I have camera envy!
Nikons are the best. And I LOVE your camera strap! I really should concoct a fancy strap of my own.
Enjoy all your photography adventures!
I just bought a new camera too. I stayed with Canon because of my lenses from my previous canon. Now we have to learn all the bells and whistles. Congrats. Also loved looking back at the wedding day. You were a lovely bride. The quilt? What a truly wonderful gift.
Another D90 owner here. It’s a great camera. What a special quilt and awesome gift!
Love your camera strap. How would it be to be truly creative? Many days I feel like everything i do is a copy of someone else’s creativity. I have a D50 (i think). I love it. I didn’t get the fancier one because even the D50 has more features than i use. I do love the pictures, though.
