Yesterday I Begged My Child to Watch TV

by Amy on December 15, 2009

When all he wanted to do was play with me.

(Did you ever notice how much more they need your attention when you have other things to do?)

I wanted to write and sew and wrap gifts and clean and bake and he wanted to play fire-fighter-Legos with me.

Something had to give.

Most days are a sweet mix of our playing together and our playing separately but lately (and I believe it’s in direct correlation to the frenzy of holiday preparations in our lives) he has needed me near him and fully engaged for hours on end.

My ‘dining’ table littered with half-completed projects and blog-posts cuing up in my mind I abandoned everything in favor of the squeaky wheel.

The funny thing was: one of the projects I wanted to work on was a present for him. It got me to thinking about which he would rather have—a present I made, neatly wrapped and presented at candle lighting time, or Mama on the floor wearing a fire hat.

The answer was obvious.

Ohhhhh — your kids are cute. How could you say no? You made the right call. Just wait until midnight and you can get to your long to-do list. It’s not going anywhere.

And with smiles like that…how could you refuse?

Gorgeous x

You are a good mama.

The fire hat wins.

The memories you make with your children will stay with them throughout their lives while the nicely-wrapped gifts will be long forgotten as they get older. The obvious answer was certainly the best – and like others have said, how could you possibly resist those handsome boys?

Good choice! Beautiful boys, too.

You are good and I bet you felt good too! I had a similar experience last week and was conned into playing twister. Oh my goodness I’ve never felt so weak and pathetic in years! That game had us in stitches and because she couldn’t read it took her ages to decide which hand or foot to move. It was so lovely to have a good laugh with her, beats work any day.

Who could resist such sweet faces? You’re such a great momma!

Sounds a bit familiar – luckily I was able to have my monster at the baby gate (dancing/pulling/jumping & talking/complaining) while I mixed a batch of cookie dough.

Baby snacks were employed while I rolled out a batch to bake. The rest of the dough is in the fridge.

Such a universal tale that I’m surprised there isn’t a cliche about that. Like: a moment on the floor is worth ten at the stove.
