You can’t go wrong with crayon rolls.

Did I ever show you the little stack of fat quarters I got at Denyse Schmidt’s studio in October?

Clearly they needed to be cut.

There—that’s better.

What do you make for the ‘tween boy in your life? Interests: music, computers, girls, music, cooking, girls and computers.

I thought cooking was my safest bet.

those crayon rolls are just beautiful – love the square fabric! And I just ordered myself dome Hope Valley – the scarf is gorgeous – and that’s a good idea for my boy – I’m at a loss this Christmas for him!

Happy Hanukkah!

Fantastic gifts!! The scarf is really nice, I like the cream solid you have used…it looks like a fine corduroy?

I’m wanting to make the 9yr old boy in my life an apron, so am inspired to see yours. And those crayon rolls are just gorgeous!

I’m swooning for that scarf! I have big plans to thrift for wool sweaters (to felt), corduroy, and linen to make scarves like that…or I’ll just end up at the fabric store!

Great stuff Amy. That sewing mojo is way back. Special love for the apron. So hard to make cool stuff as these boys get older. I can see my future.

Happy Hanukkah!

Hope I see you monday so I can tell you that in person!
I’d be happy with those fabulous crayon holders!!! how fun and colorful are they!
Crayons to me are better than chocolate… ;-)

My oldest is into cooking too! I got him a Chef’s hat and a child sized apron from Amazon.com for Christmas this year. I hope he likes them…because the rest of his gift ideas directly match that of a stoner, lol. (beanbag chair, lava lamp…etc).

Clair Acres December 12, 2009 at 11:25 am

Fantastic crayon rolls…..they look like rainbows!

Kathleen December 12, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Jake’s new aprons are the coolest – and Tessa was delighted to spot her new crayon roll front and center. Happy Hanukkah!

The red scull apron is a perfect boy gift!

happy hanukkah Amy!

natalie December 13, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Emma and Dani and I all think that the crayon rolls are beautiful!! What would you suggest for a tween who is not interested in cooking (or coloring!)…Apparently all of our gifts have been, as emma says, big thumbs down! (not about her gifts – just what he said about his!!) How was the brisket? love love love…

amy December 14, 2009 at 1:23 am

The skull apron is perfect! I love crayon rolls, I wish I had one myself–to keep my crayons safe from little hands!

Amy December 14, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Happy Hanukkah. I hope to make one of those crayon rolls by the time my guy is able to use crayons… (I’m a bit intimidated.)

Amy December 14, 2009 at 1:29 pm

I forgot – a fat quarter pack of those fabric is on my gift list – maybe for my January birthday…

Chase December 14, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Hello there..

The crayons are so COOL! Did you happen to use Kona fabric to coordinate with hope Vally? I love your fabric match!

cindy December 16, 2009 at 11:54 am

I’m so glad you didn’t get him a girl. But he can cook for a girl.
How much do you love Denyse Schmidt?

cindy December 16, 2009 at 11:54 am

And Amy Butler.
And Anna Maria Horner.

Lara December 22, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Great fabric selection for your crayon rolls! *LOVE* – I’ve just made a bundle of crayon rolls too for Ollie’s mates at daycare for Christmas… Still trying to work out the best way to bind them? Did you machine bind or hand sew? I did half of them by machine and half by hand? Hmmm… I’ve still got a few more to make. I think they make fabulous gifts and your’s look amazing!!

Lara December 22, 2009 at 6:44 pm

PS – I also used ribbon for the ties – I made fabric ties for the first one and thought blow this, there’s got to be an easier way :)
I also used fusible batting which was a dream!

I received my first personal loans when I was 20 and that helped me a lot. However, I require the sba loan once more time.
