Roundabout

by Amy on April 26, 2009

This quilt top just came over me. I rummaged through my (very unorganized) stash and did all the cutting in one afternoon—the piecing took a bit longer though. I’d like to say that it was inspired by the roundabout fashion that this spring has taken to arrive, but mostly it was just about circles, pretty fabrics and spring colors. It’s big by my standards—50″ x 70″—so I think quilting it will be a challenge. I have some ideas about how I’m going to go about it and I’m just waiting for a chunk of down-time to attack the project (wishful thinking, I know).

I absolutely love it. And Jake loves it too. He has asked more than once if we are going to ‘get to keep it’ and the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. This one is ours baby!

Speaking of spring and how long it has taken to get here—let me show you some photos of what we did today.

I’ll just remind you for effect that it’s April 26th. The temperature was over ninety here today and my stubborn daffodils still haven’t bloomed. We spent the day slathered with sunscreen and romping in the Long Island Sound and there aren’t even any leaves on the trees yet. Strange and lovely all at once. Last night and tonight both, dinner was cooked and eaten outside and my shoes are nowhere to be found. I plan on collapsing in a damp happy heap on my bed as soon as I hit ‘post’.

I love this quilt top – beautiful. There’s a circle qult class at the store where I’m taking a beginner class – maybe someday! Love your site.

We had some crazy 90 degree weather saturday and it rocked my world! I love that quilt, those round curves are neat. If only I wasn’t scared of freezing my feet off we would have headed to the beach too!

ACK! That quilt is FANTASTIC!!!

It’s been really warm here too. Lot’s of hose play. Well, if you call me isolating each of my children and preventing their escape into the house whilst I douse them "play"… I certainly had fun.

Now that is an extra happy quilt. Aside from the colors, I think the combination of straights and curves really gets me. Yay for Spring!

Oh wow, the quilt is amazing. And the little boy beside it is adorable. You’re absolutely right: He radiates sunshine. Even in photos.
Did you add the circles in applique, or really ‘piece’ them in ?

LOVE your quilt top!!! So fun when inspiration strikes at random :)

A day at the beach! I’m jealous – my tulips have just bloomed but they were frosted this morning and snowed on yesterday :P

Hope you get some sweet sleep. I’ve had to turn on the a/c here–getting up to the mid 80′s and the humidity is killing me. The kids beg me everyday to let them play in the hose! Great pictures!

Love the circles on the quilt. Did you hand piece those?

jacquie April 28, 2009 at 1:31 pm

fantastic!! great fabrics.

This is so flippin great! I love the circles, and want to do something like this myself, but after piecing circles in one block of a bee quilt, I don’t think I have it in me to do a whole quilt this way. Yet! Good on ya!
