I’ve got lots PB (pre-blog) knitting that need to be blogged!

Niall and I were married three and a half years ago in my parents’ back yard. In the months leading up to the wedding I made gifts for my three dear friends who stood up for me that day.
Evenings are chilly in Litchfield County Connecticut in late summer and our dresses were sleeveless. I thought cashmere shrugs were in order. (Really, when is a cashmere sweater not the right answer?) I designed these to be simple. They are stockinette stitch with a seed stitch border and bell sleeves. Each one took me a few weeks to knit and I enjoyed every stitch of it. Knitting for women I loved who were going to stand by me while I got my second chance at marriage — it was magic.

That’s Katha on the left. She’s Niall’s sister and I’ve known her for going on eighteen years. On my right is Kelly / Titi who I’ve known since we were in diapers. And Justine is on the right. Justine and I met in fifth grade and have been through the wars together.
I still wear mine on cool summer nights and it’s like being wrapped in that night.

Maybe this post could be the first in a series titled: “From the Archives”…
Thanks for visiting.

Beautiful photos, beautiful story, and you’re absolutely right: Cashmere sweaters are always the right answer.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Hi Amy! I wore something so similar to my backyard-second-chance wedding almost five (!) years ago. Except I had to buy mine from Garnet Hill, and it isn’t nearly as beautiful-in several ways-as the ones you made. Really nice. And you look so beautiful and happy in these pictures. Best wishes, Tara
What a lovely collection of photos!
Everything looks perfect, the color of the bridesmaid dresses, your beautiful dress, the tents.
Looks like a beautiful and fun wedding, made all the better by stunning cashmere shrugs!
