Neck Warmer Tutorial and a Quilt Block

September 29, 2008

Some of you wrote that you would like to have the pattern for the heated neck and shoulder wrap that I posted here. Well, here you go! I’ve made a few of these lately in an early attempt to keep the holiday gift making rush under control later. I always start early and end up in a mad rush anyway.

Wraps

I find these fun to make and I really love using them. I heat mine up almost every morning while the coffee is brewing and drape it over my shoulders to help shoo away the early morning stiffness. Unless one of the kids gets up first and then all bets are off on my slow-waking rituals.

Here is the first block for the SewConnected swap. It was really fun sewing with someone else’s fabric (except for the moment when I thought I had made the wrong cut and ruined it) and I hope Rita likes it.

P.S. If the .pdf thing isn’t working for you, feel free to email me and I’ll send you the instructions.

That is a cute quilt block. I made some “heating pads” like your neck warmers last year for Christmas–biggest hit ever! Didn’t make any for us….I like your idea of draping it across your neck in the morning! I think I could use one now!

What a sweet little block! It’s wonderful! And rice bags are priceless in our house. We use them to warm up cribs in the winter and cuddle under blankets and we’ve been using them in the freezer all summer to wrap on hot ankles and cuddle in hot cribs, too. They work like magic to distract overtired babies and get them to relax. I even put some litle beanbags I had made for my son in the freezer to put on his eyes when his allergies were acting up, poor baby. And I start early and still have a mad dash, too. It must be some affliction all crafty folks have. Is it because we’re just so full of amazing ideas…?Is this the longest comment ever….?

This is great. I already have a few people in mind for these. I think I’m doing a handmade Christmas this year…

The neck warmer is lovely. I can see myself using one of those on chilly mornings…

I really like your block! The embroidery is so sweet and I like the white star with all those fun background fabrics. I also like the extra white border framing the embroidered center making it just off center. Fun way to frame it.

When is your turn up for the block exchange? What are you thinking of doing? How fun to have block designs show up in the mail from the design minds of so many people!

And, oh, I think I’ll have to try the 7-up cake! I’ll let you know….Have a great day!
