Things I Love

September 11, 2008

I love

running water: rivers, streams, faucets, hoses, whatever as long as it’s moving;

December 21st;

dogs;

wool socks;

milk in glass jugs;

toddlers in overalls;

the smell of chlorine;

bare feet;

golden raisins;

Maine;

Alison Krauss’ voice;

jeans with just a hint of stretch;

acoustic guitar of any sort.

Pausing for moment on this unspeakably sad day to think of some things I love has helped to take the sting out. For a while anyway.

What do you love?

I love the smell of a freshly cut lawn, crisp apples, any movie with Cary Grant in it, kisses from my babies, the Beatles, books, books, and more books, the presence of Emma Thompson on this earth, good bread with butter and jam, and getting packages in the mail.

definitely toddlers in overalls and Alison Kraus and Maine! And the first day cool enough for oatmeal for breakfast, my beby saying mumma and my husband home early from work.

Oh. Nice stationery. With a nice pen. Ooohhh, and sealing wax. Crisp, cool, clean sheets on a freshly made bed. The smell of really old books. And the smell of damp fallen leaves. And mossy rocks. Definitely milk in glass bottles! And clotted cream on fresh scones.

wild flowers, my bed when it’s made, hand-knitted items, fresh baked bread & cookies, berries….berries…berries, the way my hubby’s makes me laugh, corn & heirloom tomatoes from the garden (or the farm), being home, hiking by myself, Jack Johnson, found rocks and shells and sea glass, colors.

I love Maine, cool weather, my family (they live far away…), springy yarn, freshly bathed cats, homemade jam, my local library…
