Jar Love

by Amy on June 24, 2008

Before I married him, NQW bought a house in Vermont. It is an 1806 Federal that…needed a lot of work. After touring the house for the first time, one friend commented that there wasn’t “one square inch of house that didn’t need at least two things done to it”. Eight years later, the house has running water and the green asphalt shingles have been removed. There is heat and appliances and most of the (larger) indigenous wildlife has moved out.

When he bought it, there was something approaching one hundred glass canning jars of all ages, shapes and sizes in the basement. Many had well preserved fruit or vegetables still inside. I have a thing for Ball jars and NQW has a thing for things he found in the basement of the house. We cleaned them all out and decided to use them in our wedding.

In keeping with the theme, Big and I made candles of assorted colors in small
jars and labeled them for table cards and favors for our guests.

What great pictures and what a fantastic idea for wedding favors!

I love Ball jars too, and I suspect that someday, maybe when all the kids are in school full-day, I will become an obsessive canner and preserver…

Wow, what an amazing and lucky find. I have a major thing of old canning jars too. And have been thinking of using them in my own wedding this comming May, but would need a great find like yours to really make it happen.

P.S. You have a very beautiful blog.
